Tehillim 21, Part 9, Hashem’s Strength Revealed

Dovid Hamelech does not try to placate others.  He tells Hashem to deal with our enemies straight up.

This is what he davens for !

תְּשִׁיתֵמוֹ כְּתַנּוּר אֵשׁ לְעֵת פָּנֶיךָ יְהוָה בְּאַפּוֹ יְבַלְּעֵם וְתֹאכְלֵם אֵשׁ

You  shall make them like a fiery oven in the time of Your anger: Hashem shall swallow them up in His wrath, and the fire shall devour them.  (verse 10)

In the same way a furnace has wood and fire and the fire eats the wood, so should our enemies be placed in the fire of His Wrath and be swallowed.^[1]

פִּרְיָמוֹ מֵאֶרֶץ תְּאַבֵּד וְזַרְעָם מִבְּנֵי אָדָם

Their fruit shall You destroy from the earth, and their seed from among the children of men.  (verse 11)

He prays to the Holy One, blessed is He, to destroy the descendants of the wicked Esau; Amalek.^[2]

כִּי־נָטוּ עָלֶיךָ רָעָה חָשְׁבוּ מְזִמָּה בַּל־יוּכָלוּ

For they intended evil against You: they imagined evil plots, but they will not succeed.  (verse 12)

They will not be able to act on their evil plots. They came to do war against us and it will be impossible for them to execute them.

כִּי תְּשִׁיתֵמוֹ שֶׁכֶם בְּמֵיתָרֶיךָ תְּכוֹנֵן עַל־פְּנֵיהֶם

For You shall make them turn their back; You shall aim Your bowstrings against the face of them. (verse 13)

Hashem will place them as a portion, separated in a corner, and Israel will  divide their money. With the strings of Your bows, You shall aim Your arrows at their faces.^[3]

רוּמָה יְהוָה בְּעֻזֶּךָ נָשִׁירָה וּנְזַמְּרָה גְּבוּרָתֶךָ

Be exalted, Hashem, in Your Strength: we will sing and praise Your power.
