How can we daven for hostages, soldiers that we never met in a way that is most effective and meaningful?  How can we know what is needed for each Neshama, without speaking to them or obtaining more information?

We are taught that the Ruach of Mashiach, also known as Ruach Elokim Mirachefes Al P’nei Hamayim[1]וְרוּחַ אֱלֹהִים מְרַחֶפֶת עַל־פְּנֵי הַמָּיִם, and, the spirit of Elokim hovers over the face of the water is a constant despite a world that may seem so confusing and backwards. [2]

The Ruach of Mashiach represents the purpose of creation, the original light Hashem saw when He created the world.

The word, “Ruach” translated as spirit also means wind.

In the Ramchal’s sefer, Derech Etz Hachaim in the first chapter we are told that each and every letter, and word of Torah is like a coal.  The more we fan it and toil in it and examine it from all different directions we will find it filled with flames of all different colors that were previously appearing as coal.   Each Letter of Torah has Divine Light hovering over like a crown.

All 600,000 roots of the souls of Klal Yisrael are contained in the letters and words of Torah.

Neshama and Torah and Hakadosh Baruch Hu are One according to the Ramchal. Chad Hu.

The Ramchal also teaches that it is the breath, (Hevel) of The Mouth of Kavyachal that gives life into each person.  He also teaches that it is the (Hevel)  of children that does away with the evil.

When we use our mouths and blow on the letters of Torah, by asking questions, seeking, searching, that ignites the flames contained in them.  The same must apply to each Neshama if each Neshama is rooted in Torah and one.

We therefore must apply the same process we do for Torah to each Neshama; to blow  this “wind” on the Neshamos  that we daven for as it says in Pirkei Avos: בֶּן בַּג בַּג אוֹמֵר, הֲפֹךְ בָּהּ וַהֲפֹךְ בָּהּ, דְּכֹלָּא בָהּ, Ben Bag Bag said: Turn it over, and [again] turn it over, for all is therein.

I  believe it is the  turning and turning over the words of Torah; neshamos  that creates this powerful breath or “wind” that activates the Ruach of Mashiach .

Meaning, the more we process and daven with thought, we are actually fanning the flames of the Ruach of Mashiach with the breath of our mouths, our prayers.  The more we do so the more our souls can absorb this Ruach of Mashiach; our Tefillos combined with the Tefillos of Hakadosh Baruch Hu.

May we be zoche to pray in such a way that all of the hostages, soldiers, klal Yisrael experience the Ruach Elokim hovering over each and every soul aka as each letter of Torah, to be fully accessible to each one of us no matter the situation biezras Hashem.
