In Judges 5:20, it says, “The stars fought from heaven,” describing the divine intervention in the battle against Sisera’s army. According to the Radak, this moment was not an isolated miracle but a continuation of the miracle at the Yam Suf, where Hashem showed His mighty Hand. During that first moment, Hashem made the waters of the sea fight for Bnei Yisrael, ensuring their deliverance. The battle with Sisera and the defeat of his 900 chariots was a replay of that miraculous intervention, as if the heavens themselves had joined the fight. (Based on teachings of HaRav Simcha L Weinberg, Shlita, 2022)

Rashi and the Ralbag further explain that this victory was orchestrated by Hashem using natural forces. The stars heated Sisera’s soldiers, leading them into the Kishon River, where they were swept away. Similarly, in modern times, Hashem still guides nature and human ingenuity to protect His people.

The Modern Miracle: Missile Interception Over Israel

Recently, a missile launched toward Israel by the Houthis was intercepted mid-air. What seemed to be a simple act of defense was, in fact, much more. It was a reminder of Hashem’s active involvement in the world, echoing the divine interventions of the past. The interception was not just a technological success but a symbol of a miraculous shield, akin to the heavens fighting for Israel.

Just as Hashem orchestrated the stars in the battle with Sisera, He continues to guide modern forces to ensure the safety of His people.

The Stars Fighting from Heaven: Then and Now

When we reflect on these events—whether the interception of a missile or the battle in Judges—we see that they are more than mere historical or current events. They are opportunities to recognize our ongoing relationship with Hashem. In both instances, the message is clear: victory does not solely depend on earthly means. As the Radak points out, when victory seems so complete, it is “as if the stars themselves fought.”

The interception of the missile echoes the ancient battles, reminding us of Hashem’s promise to protect us. In moments like this, we are invited to sing Hallel and express our gratitude, recognizing that these acts of protection are part of a much larger story that began at the Yam Suf.

Our Response: Turning Fear into Faith

The recent missile interception serves as an opportunity to reflect on Hashem’s divine protection. Just as Bnei Yisrael witnessed miracles at the Yam Suf and during the battle with Sisera, we too can use these modern miracles to deepen our connection to Hashem. These events stir within us a call to action—not just to be grateful, but to reaffirm our faith, knowing that Hashem is actively involved in our lives.

By acknowledging these miracles, both ancient and modern, we transform fear into faith and cultivate the confidence that Hashem continues to watch over us. This recognition turns each encounter into a victory of spirit, a celebration of our bond with the Divine.
